An area (1500 x 2100)mm can be completed in approx 10 minutes by two people. Road re-opened immediately after workers move out.

Let’s look at the procedures.

1.  Sweep away loose debris, sand and water if present.

2.     Position the IRMA over the area, remembering to heat about 150mm of existing asphalt around the affected area. The surface should be heated around 5 to 8 minutes depending on the

surface and the day temperature. The surface by then should be approx the same temperature as the asphalt leaves the plant.

3.   Remove the IRMA and rake the softened asphalt.

4.   Spray a maltine rejuvenator onto the heated asphalt.

This will replace the oils that have oxidised out over time.

Rake in the rejuvenator into the old asphalt.

5.    Add new asphalt to the correct level and use a wooden rake to level the area to the correct grading.  The area is now ready for compaction.

6.   Compact the area using a vibrating roller or plate.

Start the compaction from the edge to ensure bonding between

      the old and new surfaces.

7.   The area is now fully bonded and there are no cold  joints (weak joints) to come apart.
